4th Semester

So it's 4th semester! It's been a while since I have took the time to do this, but I figured that I would catch up on sharing my experiences. So third semester was spent focusing entirely around mechanical vents, and now in 4th semester we are working on baby stuff (and taking practice CRT exams). I have started working at a hospital as a student therapist which has provided me with a lot of great experience with floor patients.

We are pretty much done with learning new stuff and are really just reviewing information already learned in previous semesters to prepare us to take the NBRC exams next May. Our class has really came along way (+/- 2 people). Now during clinicals we only rotate through Critical Care and the Emergency Room, and only go to the floor to help out if we are done with our assignment. We are all taking turns going to a teaching hospital to do rotations in the NICU.

It is so strange to be a senior student, and to know that in a few short months I will be a graduated RT. I will be very excited when I am done with RT school, but I have decided to keep going school to better myself. I do like respiratory, and I am glad I made the choice to become a RT. However, I don't really think I would like to do it forever. So I have decided to get a B.S. degree so I can go to graduate school. I don't really know what I want to do yet. but I do want to stay in the medical field.  MD/DO, PA, pharmacist, dentist, OT/SLP/PT, optometrist all seem attractive to me, so I have some decisions to make.
